Aetna launches new website for women entrepreneurs

Aetna has developed a robust resource to help women business owners manage the health of their business, the well-being of their employees and their personal life. The website,
www.aetnawomenatwork.com, features pertinent information, videos, events, education courses and more, to help women balance their often dual roles as business and family caregivers and decision-makers.

"Female leadership of companies is changing how businesses are organized, managed and insured," said Mary Claire Bonner, head of Aetna Local and Regional Business. "Our work with women-led companies has taught us that the idea of communities – places where different people come together to share interests, goals and values – is central to their success. This is how we have developed the benefits plans and tools needed to serve the health and well-being of companies led by women.”

The site content is built around three core areas: healthy business, healthy family and healthy life, and it offers information intended to improve the lives of women business owners, the lives of their employees and their families.

“We understand the unique challenges facing women-led businesses, and small businesses in general,” said Bonner. “Aetnawomenatwork.com is another tangible example of our commitment to developing health and wellness solutions that deliver real value to this business segment.”

HEALTH CARE REFORM

Aetna and the Aetna Foundation sponsor Health Affairs issue offering solutions to address rising health care costs

Aetna joined with Health Affairs, the preeminent journal of health policy, as the primary sponsor of its September/October issue. The issue focuses on “Bending the Cost Curve” in health care spending, bringing together the perspectives of leading health researchers and health policy experts to examine the drivers behind growing health care costs, and offer real world solutions that are helping to control rising costs now.

The September/October issue was unveiled in early September at an event in Washington, D.C., where health policy experts, researchers and lawmakers gathered to explore these issues in depth, and it covers a variety of topics, including:

  • Can reforms in the health care delivery system, changes in payment policies or other measures restrain the rate of growth in health care costs?
  • How might such policy choices affect the quality of care Americans receive and the growth of medical knowledge?
  • What has already worked, and what might work, to take costs out of the system? What should be the top areas of focus for policymakers, health care providers, payers and patients going forward?

WELLNESS CORNER

Flu season and H1N1 vaccine

The seasonal flu vaccine is available now. Check with your doctor, or watch for notices in your community, at retail clinics or from your employer about where you can get the seasonal flu vaccine.

The government is working to make the H1N1 vaccine available in October. Since it takes time to make and test the new vaccine, there may not be enough vaccine right away for everyone. Groups at high risk of getting H1N1 should get it first. This includes:

  • Pregnant women
  • Parents and caregivers of infants under 6 months old
  • People 6 months to 24 years old
  • Health care workers/emergency personnel
  • Adults under 65 years old with high-risk medical conditions

The next group after this is healthy adults 25-64 years old. The final group is adults 65 and older.

Your physician and local or state health departments are the best sources for information about when and where vaccines will be available in your area. Read more.
